Festival Season Must-Haves: The Best Cannabis Gear for On-the-Go

Warm weather means festival season. Whether you’re attending a multi-day camping fest or a one-day event, having the right smoking accessories can make or break your experience.

With pieces that are portable and durable, discreet and easy to use, you can build a festival kit that looks slick, packs light, and gets you really, really high.

The Four Commandments of Festival Smoking Accessories

Thou Shalt Be Portable

The more weight you bring with you, the more weight you have to carry. And that bag that was light-ish at home will feel like it’s full of bricks after a few hours. So the best cannabis gear for festivals is small, lightweight, and won’t put you in a chiropractor’s office. In short: this isn’t the place for a multi-chamber monster bong.

Thou Shalt Be Discreet

Different festivals in different states all have their own rules for smoking on the grounds. So depending on the event, laying low may be the name of the game. Look for discreet weed accessories that keep the funk in check and compact pieces that you can tuck into a pocket when security is on the prowl.

Thou Shalt Be Durable

If you break your favorite glass pipe, you’re gonna have a bad time. Choose pieces that are made from durable materials like silicone, or that have hard-side storage for protection. You’ll be tossing your piece into your bag alongside the earplugs and sunscreen, so make sure it can withstand a little jostling.

Thou Shalt Be Easy to Use

Chances are you won’t have a sturdy table and a tidy rolling tray where you can meticulously pack each bowl. The best festival pieces are simple and straightforward, so you can load them on your feet in between sets. Bonus points for pieces with caps or plugs so you can pack them in advance!

The Must-Have Cannabis Gear for Festivals

Whether it’s your first rodeo or you’re a regular on the festival circuit, here are the pipes, pre-rolls, and paraphernalia that you’ll want in your backpack.

1. Smell-Proof Weed Storage

Smell-proof storage is gonna be your BFF (best festival friend). First of all, it keeps your stash on the DL if your festival is less than 4/20-friendly. It also keeps that fresh funk out of anything else in your bag, like a change of clothes or a jacket. (We love the smell of weed. We just don’t want to be wafting it everywhere we go).

Smell-proof weed storage comes in all shapes and sizes, from mini canisters to briefcase-sized carrying cases. But since portability is key, a soft-side pouch is the winner here.

The GRAV Smell-Proof Pouch fits the bill. A 100% carbon lining soaks up smells, and a rubber-lined zipper keeps any lingering odors safely locked away. It’s got space for a lighter, a handpipe, and your stash bag to keep the whole family together.

2. Small-Scale Travel Pipes

Hand pipes are the name of the game for festival season. They’re lightweight. They can fit in a pocket or small bag. They’re easy to pack and easy to light. And they can be tucked away fast if the vibes are off.

Plus, they’re more respectful of the crowd. No one likes that person who bellows huge clouds of smoke into a packed audience. That guy makes us all look bad.

We’ve got some portable options that will get you plenty high without weighing you down.

GRAV Dugouts

A dugout is a no-brainer when it comes to travel pipes. It’s got everything you need: a discreet one-hitter and storage for your pre-ground flower, all in one pocket-sized package.

With GRAV, you can choose from two durable options. The original GRAV Dugout is made of tough anodized aluminum, so your precious cargo will be safe. The new GRAV Silicone Dugout is wrapped in shock-absorbing, rubbery silicone to protect the borosilicate storage and taster from pushy crowds and party fouls.

GRAV Glass Blunt

Love a fat blunt? Love smoking through glass? Well, we’re about to make your day.

The GRAV Glass Blunt has both a borosilicate mouthpiece and a chunky herb chamber, connected by a silicone grommet. Pack the barrel end with fresh flower, and push the mouthpiece into the herb chamber to ash as you smoke.

With its two separate glass pieces, this is an easy piece to take apart for safe storage between smoke sessions. And it repacks in seconds when you’re ready for more.

GRAV OctoTaster

If you’re the type who likes to smoke a little now and a little later, the GRAV OctoTaster will be your cup of tea.

A borosilicate taster gives you the clean smoke of glass, while a built-in glass screen keeps herb and ash where it belongs. Outside, a durable silicone skin protects the glass from the crush of the crowd.

But the best part? The silicone skin extends around the bowl end of the taster. Pre-pack it and cap it back at your campsite. And when you’re ready to partake, just fold back the silicone and light ‘er up.

3. Pre-Rolls and Joints

Don’t sleep on the convenience of pre-rolled joints. There’s something to be said for a smokeable that’s ready to go straight from your bag, so you can spend more time smoking and vibing and less time packing and grinding.

GRAV Quartz Tip Cones

Quality cones? Yes.

Pre-packed with your favorite herb? Double yes.

Soggy ends after you pass it around the group? Absolutely not.

GRAV Quartz Tip Cones combine natural wood pulp paper with heat-resistant borosilicate tips that stay cool even when you smoke down to the end. Plus they never get smushed or soggy. With a cleaner overall smoke and a slick look, they’re the Cadillac of cones.

Choose Short Kings just for you, or Tall Kings if you like to share.

GRAV Glass Joints

If you like the convenience of pre-rolls—but paper just isn’t your vibe—glass joints are the way to go.

GRAV’s Fill-Your-Own Glass Joints come with seven individual flower cartridges. Each has its own rubber stoppers, so you can pre-pack them before you even leave the house. When you’re ready to smoke, pop off one cap and connect the cartridge to the mouthpiece with the included silicone grommet. Take off the other cap and you’re ready to go.

The whole kit comes in a handy plastic joint tube, so you can keep it all together until it’s time to light up. With seven pre-filled glass joints, you’ll be set for at least day one. 👀

4. The Best of the Rest

You’ve got your weed, you’ve got your portable festival-friendly pipe. What else should you add to your go bag?

  • A joint tube or protector – to keep cones from getting crushed

  • A sealable travel ashtray – be a mensch and don’t litter

  • A lightweight grinder – if you plan to grind fresh flower

  • A windproof lighter – you never know what the conditions will be like until you get there

  • A bandana – protect your neck from the sun and use it as an impromptu rolling mat

  • Hand sanitizer and/or wipes – If you’ve got fresh bud that still has sticky trichomes, you’ll want something you can use to clean those digits

Breath mints & gum – Freshen up and keep your mouth moist

5. Hydration & Wellness Essentials

You’re going to be on your feet, in the sun, probably dancing, and definitely smoking a lot of weed. The dry mouth, dehydration, and munchies will be no joke.

Of course, festivals have concessions. But the prices can be outrageous. I’m sorry…$10 for a cup of black coffee and $22 for a bacon grilled cheese? Yes, these are real prices from Coachella 2022.

While it’s safe to assume you’re going to spend some money on food and drinks while you’re there, you can make your experience more affordable (and avoid the lines) by bringing your own stash of water and snacks. Chips and pretzels travel well, but protein bars or trail mix will help keep you full longer. A few electrolyte packets to mix into your water wouldn’t hurt, either.

Festival Survival Tips for the 4/20 Crowd

Know the Rules

Do a little recon before you head out. Some festivals are super 4/20-friendly, so there’s nothing to worry about (see Coachella, Outside Lands, pretty much any reggae fest).

Others are strictly drug-free, and if you get caught smoking you could get kicked out and possibly banned in the future (see Tomorrowland, Lightning in a Bottle).

So know the risks before you go, and make an informed decision about smoking at the festival before your stash gets confiscated and you’re missing out on the fun.

Start on the festival’s FAQ page to find the festival’s official policy. Also keep in mind that some may say that no weed is allowed, while the experience on the ground is pretty permissive. To find out how seriously they take their drug policy, Reddit can be a great resource for first-hand experiences.

Respect the Crowd

Not everyone smokes, so be mindful of the crowd around you. Try to blow up over the crowd, instead of into anyone’s face.

Treat Yourself Right

Drink lots of water. Take breaks in between smoke sessions. Enjoy the vibes and don’t overdo it! No one wants to end up in the medical tent because they went too hard, too fast.

Plan Right, Party Right

Your festival-friendly smoking accessories will enhance your experience, not weigh it down. With the right pieces, you’ll be flying high and soaking up the energy that only comes from live music, the collective crowd experience, and the Free Hugs guy (there’s always at least one).
