The most common use of "joint" in a cannbis concept is a cannabis cigarette. Smokers either roll their own joints using sheets of rolling paper (these need to be sealed like an envelope using a strip of adhesive and saliva) or cones (these are pre-formed and pre-sealed rolling papers with a hard-paper crutch that just need to be filled and twisted at the end). The joint is then smoked like a cigarette. There are also joint-like devices, such as GRAV's Fill-Your-Own Glass Joints, that provide a lot of the function and experience of smoking a joint, but using glass instead of paper.
"Joint" may also refer to a component of glass pipes, also called a ground joint. A joint connects two separate pieces of glass. Every joint has a male and a female component that fit together, one inside the other. Joints are measured by their diameter, and the standard for the pipe industry is 14mm. 10mm and 19mm joints are also common alternatives. Standardized joints allow accessories like bowls, bangers, and ash catchers to be purchased, customized, replaced, and cleaned separately.
